In a significant crackdown, Manipur Police on Sunday apprehended an active member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive War Group) [KCP (PWG)] from Lamphel Super Market in Imphal West. The arrested individual has been identified as Leihaothabam Nanao Sharma, alias Puremba (29).

According to police sources, the accused was actively involved in extortion activities, targeting the general public, government officials, and shopkeepers across the greater Imphal area. Law enforcement officials seized one mobile phone and a SIM card from his possession during the operation.

In a separate operation aimed at curbing illegal activities, 41.5 litres of Distilled Indigenous Country (DIC) liquor and 39 bottles of whisky (180 ml each) were seized from Pangei Bazar under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East District.
