Agartala, February 20, 2025: A shocking conspiracy involving a police constable and a bank manager has come to light, leaving the citizens of Tripura’s Udaipur under Gomati district in disbelief. Police Constable Jayanta Saha posted at Radhakishorpur Police Station and HDFC Bank manager Abhishek Sarkar allegedly orchestrated a fraud amounting to ₹82 lakh, targeting unsuspecting customers. Multiple cases have been registered at Radhakishorpur Police Station regarding the fraudulent withdrawals, but concerns have been raised about the impartiality of the investigation, given that one of the accused is from the same police station.
Sources informed, Jayanta Saha, who is also reportedly close to the ruling BJP used his influence to manipulate bank records. “He considers himself the boss of the police station. He has strong political connections and is known for interfering in police matters,” an officer revealed under anonymity. Reports suggest that Saha is actively involved in the cyber crime cell, which may have enabled him to facilitate fraudulent transactions with ease.
The first complaint was lodged by Niyati Sarkar Roy, a resident of College Tilla in Udaipur, who accused Abhishek Sarkar and Jayanta Saha’s wife, Priyanka Pal of misappropriating her deposits. In FIR No. 5/2025 (BNS Sections 318(4), 318(3), 351(2)), she alleged that ₹25,50,261 including her fixed deposit was illegally transferred. Bank statements revealed that a significant portion of the money was funneled into Priyanka Pal’s account before being swiftly moved to Jayanta Saha’s.
Another victim, Suniti Datta from the Haryananda School area filed FIR No. 21/2025 (BNS 318(4), 61(2)) stating that her ₹18 lakh fixed deposit was fraudulently transferred into a fake account. Similarly, Lopamudra Roy lodged FIR No. 26/2025 (BNS 218(4), 318(3)), after finding that her fixed deposit had been withdrawn prematurely.
With the total fraudulent transactions now estimated at ₹82 lakh, public outrage is mounting. “How can the police ensure a fair investigation when one of their own is involved? Jayanta Saha should be immediately suspended and removed from the police station to ensure an unbiased probe” questioned a local activist.
District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak has confirmed that the investigation is being led by the Additional Superintendent of Police. “We are taking this case seriously. All financial transactions are being scrutinized, and appropriate legal action will be taken against those found guilty,” he assured.
However, concerns persist over Jayanta Saha’s political connections. “Is there an attempt to shield him because of his links to the ruling party? Is this not a direct attack on the credibility of Home Minister Dr. Manik Saha?” asked a senior journalist.
Shockingly, this is not the first controversy surrounding Jayanta Saha. Sources allege that he has been involved in selling confiscated NDPS case items, settling cases for money and leaking opposition complaints to political leaders. Additionally, he is said to have played a key role in the Rajnagar Bridge attack on police personnel due to internal disputes.
