The central government has deputed 16 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from the 2024 batch to Manipur, marking the highest-ever deployment of IPS officers to the northeastern state in a single year. The unprecedented posting reflects the Centre’s intensified efforts to restore law and order in the violence-affected region.
Official records reveal a sharp contrast with previous years, when IPS postings to Manipur were minimal — none in 2018, two in 2019, one in 2020, and three in 2021.
Government sources said the large-scale deployment is aimed at strengthening the state’s administrative capacity, improving ground-level policing, and enhancing intelligence coordination amid ongoing unrest that has gripped Manipur in recent months.
