Agartala, April 16, 2025: Tripura’s former Chief Minister and incumbent Lok Sabha CP Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the rising number of traffic accidents in West Tripura district blaming the situation on uncontrolled vehicular movement and rampant illegal parking across the capital city.

Speaking at a road safety committee meeting held at the Sonar Tari Guest House, MP Deb said, “Uncontrolled traffic and illegal parking in various parts of the city are worsening the situation. Road accidents are becoming a major concern for the administration.”

The road safety committee, which convenes every three months, held its scheduled meeting on Wednesday with the aim of formulating a concrete strategy to curb accidents. The meeting was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor & MLA Dipak Majumdar and West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, among others.

Addressing the media, MP Deb said the primary focus of the meeting was to draft and implement an action plan with specific targets to reduce accident-related deaths in the district. “We have discussed identifying the causes of accidents, studying the accident-prone areas, and ensuring proper implementation of road safety standards,” he added.

He also emphasized the administration’s intent to crack down on traffic rule violations and illegal parking practices. “Rules will be strictly enforced. At the same time, we urge the youth to play an active role in spreading awareness about road safety,” Deb said.
