Agartala, April 17, 2025: In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken the administration and the public alike, serious allegations of child abuse and attempted child trafficking have surfaced against a man from Das Para in Khayerpur assembly constituency in West Tripura district. The accused father Gautam Ghosh was arrested from his residence on Thursday following a police complaint by a local social organization.
According to reports, Gautam Ghosh got married a year back and a baby girl were born to the couple three and a half months back. However, instead of celebrating the arrival of the newborn, Gautam allegedly became hostile and repeatedly pressured his wife to sell the infant. When his wife refused, he allegedly beat the baby girl, prompting her to flee the house with the child on the first day of the Bengali New Year.
“The mother feared for the safety of her baby and took shelter. It was a terrifying situation,” said a representative of the Yuva Prerna Samajik Sansthan, the organization that later rescued the woman and her child.
The organization reported the incident to Bodhjangnagar Police Station on Wednesday. With their assistance, police arrested Gautam Ghosh from his home on Thursday morning.
Officials from the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the District Child Protection Unit visited the mother and child at a private shelter in Radhanagar, Agartala and conducted a medical check-up.
“The child and her mother will be moved to an official shelter home on Friday for their safety and care,” said an official from the TCPCR.
Sources confirm that during questioning by the social workers, Gautam Ghosh confessed to the allegations. The administration has taken the matter seriously, and further investigation is underway.
