Agartala, April 18, 2025: In an oblique reference to Tripura’s former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Samir Ranjan Barman, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and local MLA Dipak Majumdar on Friday issued a stern warning against any attempt to obstruct public development works, stating that legal action will be taken if such interference continues.

While inspecting the ongoing construction of a cover drain from IGM Chowmuhani to Orient Chowmuhani under the Agartala Smart City Project, Mayor Majumdar expressed his concern over alleged obstruction by former Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman and his family.

“This drain is being constructed to save the city from natural disasters like waterlogging. But surprisingly, former Chief Minister Sameer Ranjan Barman and his family are repeatedly trying to hinder this crucial development work. The engineers were not being allowed to work on several occasions. That’s why I had to come and inspect the progress personally,” Majumdar told reporters at the site.

Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, the mayor firmly stated, “No one, no matter how powerful or influential, will be allowed to obstruct government work. If anyone tries to assert their personal interest over public welfare, the Corporation will be compelled to take legal action.”

He reiterated that development belongs to the people and cannot be held hostage by personal or political interests. “We are committed to the citizens of Agartala. The Corporation will ensure that no one derails the progress meant for the people,” the Mayor added.
