Agartala, April 19, 2025: To ease traffic congestion and ensure public safety, the District Magistrate of West Tripura has issued a notification restricting the movement of slow-moving vehicles, particularly e-rickshaws and rickshaws, during peak hours on specific roads of Agartala city.
The restriction will be in effect from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM and will cover two major routes: IGM to RMS Chowmuhani-B.K to Colonel Chowmuhani-North Gate-Mutriprangana (2.5 km); IGM to TRTC Crossing – B.K Chowmuhani (660 meters).
Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS, District Magistrate of West Tripura, stated, “The restriction has been imposed for public safety and to reduce traffic congestion during rush hours. The movement of slow-moving vehicles on these busy stretches has often resulted in bottlenecks that inconvenience commuters.”
The decision comes following a communication from the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), who highlighted the urgent need for such measures.
“We received multiple reports of traffic slowdowns due to e-rickshaws on major city roads, particularly during office hours,” noted the police communication referenced in the order.
The new traffic regulation takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders. Officials urge commuters and transport operators to cooperate with the authorities in maintaining smooth traffic flow.
This step is expected to provide significant relief to daily commuters and streamline vehicular movement in the heart of the city.
