Tripura Minister Sushanta Chowdhury Leads High-Level Meeting on National Highway-08 Widening

Agartala, April 19, 2025: The project to widen the Assam-Agartala ‘National Road-08’ between Tripura’s Champaknagar and Khayerpur under Jirania Sub-Division in West district is being expedited while ensuring minimal impact on existing infrastructure. Authorities aim to safeguard the interests of government institutions, commercial establishments, and small traders situated along the road.

A high-level conference has been chaired by Majlishpur MLA and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, was convened today to address the matter. “This widening project is essential for the region’s development, but we must ensure minimal disruption to businesses and institutions along the route,” Chowdhury urged during the meeting.

Present at the conference were representatives from NHIDCL, New India Construction Limited, and key officials from various departments, including the Land Acquisition Officer of the West District, the Executive Engineer of the Jirania Division of Public Works and Drinking Water & Sanitation Department, and the Sub-Divisional Forest Officer (Mandai). Also in attendance were the Divisional Fire Officer (West District), the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, and officials from the Jirania and Ranirbazar Electrical Sub-Divisions of TSECL.

Chowdhury appealed to the officials present to prioritize the swift completion of the road-widening project while minimizing damage to the institutions and shops located on both sides of the road. “We must work collaboratively to strike a balance between progress and preservation,” he emphasized.

The meeting also included Revenue Inspectors, Tehsildars, Assistant Registrars of Cooperative Societies, CDPO representatives, and members of Mohanpur Bazar Committee, reflecting the broad spectrum of stakeholders involved in the project. Discussions revolved around strategies to ensure seamless implementation of the widening initiative, which holds significant importance for the region’s connectivity and economic growth.
