Agartala, April 26, 2025: Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, tensions have gripped the entire country. Amidst the growing unrest, police in North Tripura’s Dharmanagar have arrested a retired headmaster on charges of making obscene remarks against India and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on social media.
The arrested individual has been identified as Sajal Chakraborty, a resident of Dharmanagar’s Jail Road area. According to police sources, Chakraborty was arrested on Friday night for allegedly spreading anti-national sentiments online. A case has been registered against him under sections 196, 352, and 353 of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced before the District and Sessions Court on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters, Dharmanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sriti Kanta Bardhan said, “We have arrested the accused based on specific complaints. The investigation is underway, and we are collecting all necessary evidence linked to his social media activity.”
Meanwhile, another youth Biswajit Biswas has also been accused of posting anti-India content, though the police have not yet been able to arrest him. “Efforts are on to trace and arrest the second accused,” added OC Vardhan.
In a related development, Ambassa Chief Judicial Magistrate DP Mishra rejected the bail petitions of two other retired teachers, Jawahar Debnath and Kuldeep Mondal, ordering them into five-day jail custody. Public Prosecutor Subir Das, representing the government, said, “The court found sufficient grounds to deny bail, given the seriousness of the charges.”
