Cyclone Sitrang: Several Houses Damaged; Trees Uprooted Due To Heavy Rains In Assam

Several houses were damaged due to Cyclone Sitrang, triggering heavy rainfall and intense storm in the Nagaon district of Assam.

Numerous trees and electric poles were also uprooted in various parts of the region due to the cyclonic storm on Monday night.

According to reports, the cyclonic storm damaged several houses in the Kaliabor, Bamuni, Sakmuthia tea estate, and Boraligaon areas.

The village headman has inspected the entire village and will submit the damage report to our Circle Officer.

Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday informed that the remnant of the cyclonic storm “Sitrang” which created a deep depression over Bangladesh, has further weakened into a depression over northeast Bangladesh, north-northeast of Agartala and south-southwest of Shillong.

Taking to Twitter, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) wrote “The Depression over northeast Bangladesh and neighborhood weakened into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area and lay centered over northeast Bangladesh and adjoining Meghalaya at 0830 hrs IST of today,the 25th October. To weaken into a low pressure area during next 06 hours.”

“o(i) Rainfall:Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, northeast Assam and isolated heavy rainfall over remaining parts of Assam, Meghalaya & Nagaland today on 25th October. Wind warning: Strong wind speed reaching 25-35 kmph gusting to 45 kmph is very likely to prevail over south Assam and adjoining Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura during next 6 hours and reduce thereafter. Dry weather likely to prevail over most parts of Northwest & central India” – he further added.
