Agartala, May 2, 2025: In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling and human trafficking, a joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police arrested a human trafficker along with three Indian nationals and seized a large quantity of banned narcotics in a series of operations on April 29.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint force conducted a raid in the Narsingarh and Kayerdhepa Bazar areas under Airport Police Station. During the operation, 805 bottles of Eskuff Cough syrup, classified as a banned narcotic substance were recovered from the accused. Officials estimate the total value of the seized contraband and other items at approximately Rs 13 lakh.
In a separate operation the same day, BSF personnel from the Kayerdhepa border outpost arrested another human trafficker in the Kayerdhepa Bazar area. According to sources, the individual was facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi and Rohingya nationals into Indian territory and had been providing them shelter and logistical support. A case has been registered against him under charges of human trafficking.
Additionally, BSF personnel from the Putia border outpost apprehended an Indian national while he was allegedly re-entering India through the border fence from Bangladesh. Foreign currencies including UAE Dirhams and Bangladeshi Taka were recovered from his possession.
A BSF official stated, “We have intensified our operations to prevent infiltration and smuggling along the border. Efforts are underway to identify and dismantle the broker networks operating in these areas.”
