Agartala, May 06, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday declared that the state has completely emerged from the shadows of terrorism and is now focusing on boosting tourism through a series of ambitious development initiatives.

Speaking at a public event in Chandibari under the Amarpur Sub-Division of Gomati district, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of multiple projects, Dr. Saha emphasized how decades of insurgency had crippled the state’s growth. “Insurgency held Tripura back for years. But after the historic tripartite agreement signed in Delhi in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, hundreds of militants from NLFT and ATTF laid down arms last September. Peace has returned, and progress is now visible,” he said.

Highlighting the BJP-led government’s achievements since coming to power in 2018, Dr. Saha noted: “Tripura ranks second in the northeast in GDP after Assam and second in per capita income after Sikkim. Our natural resources and scenic beauty are immense assets, and we are committed to leveraging them for the state’s development.”

He informed that over seven lakh tourists—both domestic and international—visited Tripura last year, underscoring the state’s growing appeal.

Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury echoed the optimism, stating that Tripura is on the path to becoming a premier tourism hub. “With active support from the Centre, we are working on various tourism projects, including those centered on religious, cultural, eco and adventure tourism. In just two years, Tripura will be transformed into a world-class destination,” he said.

Chowdhury revealed plans for a state-of-the-art eco-park, inspired by Kolkata’s Nicco Park, to be developed in Jirania with an investment of ₹50 crore. He also spoke of future projects like seaplane tourism to enhance connectivity and tap into the state’s aquatic tourism potential.
