Dr. Madhulika Jonathan, Chief of Field Office for UNICEF in Assam and the Northeastern States, called on Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan today to discuss ongoing humanitarian efforts in the state, with a special focus on support for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Joined by a team of four UNICEF officials, Dr. Madhulika briefed the Governor on the organisation’s activities in Manipur, including the distribution of educational and sports kits to children from displaced communities. She also outlined UNICEF’s ongoing initiatives in vaccination and immunization campaigns aimed at improving child health in affected areas.
Highlighting the financial challenges currently faced by UNICEF, Dr. Madhulika sought the Governor’s support in ensuring sustained humanitarian assistance to displaced families. She also requested his guidance to help overcome operational hurdles.
Governor Bhalla acknowledged the vital role played by UNICEF and assured the team of his cooperation in facilitating their work. He praised their commitment to humanitarian service and encouraged continued prioritization of vulnerable groups, particularly children and displaced families, in their outreach programs.
