Agartala, May 15, 2025: In a sharp political statement, senior Congress leader and MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Thursday claimed that many leaders in the BJP, including former Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman, carry the “DNA of Congress,” which naturally makes them inclined towards the party.

Speaking to media personnel here in Agartala city, Barman remarked, “Most of the people in the BJP, including Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman, have Congress in their DNA. It is only natural for them to feel a certain pull towards the Congress.”

The statement comes a day after Pradyot Kishore was spotted outside the Tripura Congress Bhavan, returning old party flags. Barman clarified that this act held no political significance. “When he was the Pradesh Congress president, many flags were left behind. Yesterday, he came to return those flags. He didn’t even step inside the building — he just returned them from outside and left,” said Mr. Barman.

He dismissed any speculation about a political motive behind Pradyot’s visit. “There is no political angle to it. He only came after hearing what some Congress leaders had said. People should not overthink it,” he added.

Sudip Roy Barman’s remarks are expected to stir discussions within political circles as Tripura gears up for the next phase of political realignment.
