Agartala, May 19, 2025: Amid the nationwide strike call issued by the All India State Government Employees’ Federation for May 20, the Tripura Government has issued a clear directive emphasizing the continuity of government functioning across the state.

In a memorandum circulated by the General Administration (AR) Department, the state government stated, “All government offices, undertakings, and organizations under the State Government should function normally on the day of the general strike. All employees of such bodies are expected to perform their duties as usual on that day.”

The strike has been called by the Employees’ Federation to press for demands including the regularization of contractual employees and the cessation of outsourced and daily-wage employment. The Tripura Employees’ Coordination Committee (H.B. Road) has also urged state employees and teachers to join the strike.

However, the government has taken a firm stance against any such participation. “Any violation of the above instructions by government employees and employees of such undertakings/organizations will be viewed seriously,” the memo warns.

Joint Secretary Debjani Deb Sarkar, who signed the memorandum, instructed all Principal Secretaries, Special Secretaries, and Heads of Departments to ensure these orders are communicated to all employees under their purview. “A report regarding attendance in different offices/undertakings/organizations on the day of the general strike should be sent to the General Administration (AR) Department by 12:00 noon of 20th May 2025, positively,” the memorandum further states.

This directive has been widely circulated, including to the Secretary to the Governor, the Chief Secretary, DGP, and heads of all departments, signaling the administration’s intent to ensure strict compliance and minimize disruption during the strike.
