Guwahati, May 21: Assamese actress and influencer Sumi Borah has been granted bail by the Gauhati High Court in a multi-crore trading scam case registered at Barbaruah Police Station, Dibrugarh district. This clears the way for her release from custody.

Sumi Borah and her husband, Tapan Borah alias Tarkik, surrendered to the Dibrugarh Police on September 12, 2024, following which they were arrested. While Sumi had earlier secured bail in other related cases, the Barbaruah case was the only one where bail was pending.

Tapan Borah is currently out on bail. Both are alleged close associates of Bishal Phukan, the alleged mastermind of the scam, who has also been granted bail in all cases registered against him.

After their arrests, the Assam Government handed over 41 cases related to the trading scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further investigation.
