The Nepali-language feature film Shape of MoMo, directed by Tribeny Rai from Ranipool, Sikkim, was selected for the prestigious “HAF Goes to Cannes” programme at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The film is currently under production.
On May 17, Shape of MoMo was among five Asian projects presented and pitched to global industry professionals at the Cannes Film Market. Director Tribeny Rai, producer Kislay, and lead actor Gaumaya Gurung showcased a 10-minute excerpt of the film to an audience that included festival programmers, curators, sales agents, and distributors.
The team also unveiled the film’s first official poster at the Bharat Pavilion during the festival. Shape of MoMo is Rai’s first full-length feature and explores the journey of a woman determined to overcome patriarchal constraints. The film was extensively shot in and around Nandok.
