Agartala, May 24, 2025: In a significant boost to Tripura’s railway infrastructure, the Central government has approved a new train service between Agartala and Guwahati (Narangi), following a formal request made by West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

The approval, confirmed in a letter from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to Deb, comes less than a month after the MP’s meeting with the minister on April 22. During the meeting, Deb had strongly advocated for the expansion and modernisation of railway connectivity in Tripura, including the introduction of new express trains to improve public convenience.

“I thank the Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for responding promptly to the needs of the people of Tripura. The new train between Agartala and Guwahati will significantly enhance regional connectivity and benefit passengers across the North Eastern region,” Deb stated in his response.

The Railway Minister had reportedly assured Deb on the day of their meeting that his proposals were being taken into serious consideration. The latest approval marks another achievement in Deb’s ongoing efforts to improve Tripura’s transport network.

Sources within the Ministry of Railways have indicated that other key proposals discussed during the meeting — such as double-tracking, modernisation, and further extension of railway lines in the state — are also under review.

Since his tenure as Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb has played a pivotal role in enhancing Tripura’s rail connectivity, leading to the introduction of several express services in the region. With the addition of this new service, travel between Agartala and Guwahati is expected to become more efficient and comfortable for passengers.
