Agartala, June 03, 2025: Tripura’s BJP allied partner Tipra Motha Party’s youth wing Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) has issued a stern ultimatum to the state government demanding action against Gomati district’s District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma within seven days. Failing this, YTF has threatened to call for a state-wide Tripura bandh.
Speaking at a press conference here in Agartala on Monday, YTF President Suraj Debbarma said, “The DM of Gomati district TK Chakma has insulted our leader Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma. Despite the gravity of this matter, the state government has taken no action. That is why we are compelled to launch our protest in Gomati today.”
Debbarma further warned that if the government fails to act, “We will bring Tripura to a standstill — just like the lockdown during the COVID period.” His tone indicated rising frustration and a direct challenge to the state leadership.
It is worth noting that Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha had previously stated he is “looking into the matter.” However, the YTF appears unconvinced by his assurances, moving forward with their agitation as per their earlier announcement.
The protest comes at a time when Tripura is grappling with widespread floods due to incessant rainfall, displacing many and triggering emergency relief efforts. In this backdrop, political observers are questioning the timing and justification of the YTF’s movement.
Meanwhile, ahead of the press conference, a closed-door meeting was held at the MLA Hostel attended by two state ministers, Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma, both from Tipra Motha — an ally of the ruling government.
When asked about the protest, Minister Brishaketu Debbarma said, “YTF is protesting because the government has not taken any action against the DM. That’s their stand.” Minister Animesh Debbarma added, “I am here as a party worker. All decisions regarding the movement are made by YTF.”
