A massive landslide struck the Imphal–Jiribam road (NH-37) this afternoon around 3 PM between Awangkhul and Langkhong villages in Noney district, once again blocking the vital highway.
The affected area is a known landslide-prone zone due to its loose soil and frequent mudslides during rainfall. Just two days ago, debris from an earlier landslide had been cleared to restore traffic flow.
According to the Public Relations Officer of ABCI, the company handling road construction in the area, continuous rainfall has caused fresh mud to slide, hampering ongoing clearance efforts. As a result, debris removal could not be completed today.
Numerous vehicles heading towards Tamenglong, Nungba, Jiribam, and nearby areas are now stranded on both sides of the highway. Authorities expect the clearance operation to be completed by tomorrow, weather permitting.
