Security forces in Manipur have ramped up intelligence-driven combing operations and cordon-and-search activities across the state as part of an intensified crackdown on extortion networks and armed groups operating in fringe and vulnerable regions.
As part of the ongoing operations, four cadres of the Chin Kuki Mizo Army (CKMA), a non-signatory to the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, were arrested on June 3 from the general area of Kerith village, Rengkai, under the jurisdiction of Churachandpur Police Station.
The arrested individuals—identified as Samuel Kamninhao, Hegun Seimingun, Thangminhou Touthang, and Mangkhohao Touthang—were allegedly involved in illegal arms trading, issuing extortion demands, and threatening civilians at gunpoint. Security forces recovered two 9mm live rounds and three mobile phones from their possession.
In a separate operation, security personnel conducted extensive search missions in the Wangoo Naral Samtak hill areas of Kakching district, leading to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition. Seized items included INSAS and SBBL rifles, grenades, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), mortars, tactical gear, and communication equipment.
