The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) have jointly resolved to continue their boycott of all Manipur state government-related news and information, including coverage of State and Central security forces, until the Inquiry Committee probing the Gwalatabi incident submits its report and action is taken against those found responsible.

The decision was reaffirmed during a joint meeting held on June 5, following the failure of the government-appointed Inquiry Committee to submit its report within the 15-day period mandated by the government order dated May 21.

Despite the delay in the report’s submission, the Inquiry Committee has summoned media persons who were onboard the MST bus that was detained by security forces during the Shiroy Lily Festival on May 20. The journalists have been called to appear at the Manipur Secretariat on June 7 to record their statements.

While reiterating the continuation of the boycott, AMWJU and EGM clarified that coverage of emergency-related news, particularly concerning flood relief operations and public safety, will not be affected and will continue in the public interest.

Both media bodies urged the government to expedite the inquiry process, stating that the ongoing boycott is not in the interest of the public and will be lifted once appropriate action is taken and justice is delivered.
