COVID-19 Resurfaces in Tripura: Two New Cases Detected Amid National Spike

Agartala, June 14, 2025: COVID-19 has made a fresh appearance in Tripura, with two new cases detected in the last 24 hours. According to the state Health Director Dr. Tapan Majumdar, the patients are residents of Dhalai and South Tripura districts and are currently under home isolation.

“Both individuals had come to the hospital with symptoms like cough, cold, and fever. Their RT-PCR tests confirmed COVID-19 infection,” said Dr. Majumdar. He added that a previous case reported earlier has since recovered, bringing the state’s current active case tally to two.

This comes at a time when the country is witnessing a renewed rise in COVID-19 cases. According to the latest bulletin issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday morning, India reported 354 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases now stands at 7,400.

The bulletin also confirmed nine new COVID-related fatalities across the country. Among them, four deaths were reported from Maharashtra, three from Kerala, and one each from Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. Notably, eight of the deceased were senior citizens with co-morbidities such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney issues, high blood pressure, and pneumonia. A 34-year-old man with lung complications and pneumonia was also among the deceased.

According to the Health Ministry, Kerala is still the state with the highest number of corona infected patients, with 2109 active patients. It is followed by Gujarat (1437), West Bengal (747), Delhi (672), Maharashtra (613), Karnataka (527), Uttar Pradesh (248), Tamil Nadu (232), Rajasthan (180), Madhya Pradesh (120), Andhra Pradesh (102), Haryana (97), Chhattisgarh (50), Sikkim (50), Odisha (45), Bihar (41), Punjab (29), Assam (26), Jharkhand (25), Puducherry (10), Jammu and Kashmir (9), Telangana (8), Goa (6), Manipur (5), Uttarakhand (5), Ladakh (3), Chandigarh (2) and Tripura (2). Currently, there is no active case of COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Arunachal Pradesh.

Health authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant. “Citizens are advised to practice proper hand hygiene, follow respiratory etiquette, avoid crowded places when unwell, and seek immediate medical care in case of severe respiratory symptoms,” the Health Ministry stated. It also emphasized the importance of relying on official channels like the Ministry’s website and PIB for accurate updates.

The Centre has reassured that it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to implement proactive measures and maintain transparent communication to safeguard public health.
