Kohima, Apr 29: The Nagaland government has shortened the timeline for the High Power Committee (HPC) to submit its report on the absorption of 147 contractual Assistant Professors and Librarians from eight weeks to four weeks.

The decision was taken during an emergency Cabinet meeting held in Kohima on April 28. The HPC was initially constituted during a Cabinet meeting on April 21 with a mandate to submit its recommendations within eight weeks.

Deputy Chief Minister T. R. Zeliang, addressing the media alongside Minister for Parliamentary Affairs K. G. Kenye and Chief Secretary J. Alam, said the Cabinet took the decision after considering the concerns raised by the agitating contractual faculty members.

Zeliang informed that with one week already elapsed since April 21, the committee now has three weeks remaining to complete and submit its report. He further stated that any reversal of the government’s earlier decision would require proper documentary evidence to justify the action.
