Kohima, May 3: President Droupadi Murmu virtually inaugurated the Sevic Senior Citizens Home in Wokha, Nagaland, on May 2, 2025, during a multi-state ceremony held from New Delhi. The inauguration was part of a nationwide initiative launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, covering five states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

The event also marked the launch of the Senior Citizen Welfare Portal, aimed at providing senior citizens with easier access to various welfare schemes and services. Alongside the portal, five Old Age Homes were virtually inaugurated across the participating states, reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening elderly care infrastructure nationwide.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between the Ministry and Brahma Kumaris to promote collaborative programmes focusing on moral support, well-being, and social engagement for senior citizens.

President Murmu also distributed Assisted Living Devices under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana to support mobility and daily activities of elderly individuals, thereby improving their quality of life.

The programme began with a welcome address by Amit Yadav, Secretary of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, followed by a pledge ceremony and a speech from Dr. Virendra Kumar of the Ministry, reaffirming the government’s commitment to elderly welfare and inclusive development.

The virtual inauguration of the Sevic Senior Citizens Home in Wokha stands as a key milestone in the government’s continued efforts to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for senior citizens across the country.
