Three Active Insurgents Arrested In Manipur Operations

Manipur Police and security forces have arrested three active cadres of proscribed valley-based insurgent groups from different parts of the state in separate operations conducted between July 1 and 2.

On July 2, a team from Nambol Police Station apprehended Oinam Hemanjit Singh alias Taibangsemba (50), an active member of the PREPAK (Pro) outfit, from the Meitram area in Bishnupur district. Hemanjit, a resident of Thangalawai Sabal Leikai, was found in possession of a diesel auto-rickshaw and two mobile phones.

Earlier, on July 1, Waikhong Police arrested Lourembam Suresh alias Mairongba alias Toto (47), an active cadre of KCP (PWG), from Elang Khangpokpi Awang Leikai, Maning Pat under Kakching district. Suresh hails from Heirangoithong Oinam Leikai in Imphal West. A mobile handset was seized from him during the arrest.

In a separate operation on the same day, security forces nabbed another KCP (PWG) operative, Oinam Tomba Singh alias Herojit (57), from Sekmaijin Maning Leikai under Hiyanglam Police Station in Kakching district. A resident of Tumukhong Awang Leikai in Imphal East, he is reportedly involved in several extortion cases targeting fuel pump owners in Kakching and Thoubal districts. A keypad mobile phone was recovered from him.

All three are currently in police custody for further investigation.
