ICR Naharlagun Police arrested a 19 year old on June 9 in connection with two incidents of stalking and attempted outraging of modesty reported in Naharlagun and Nirjuli on June 7.
The accused, John Loda, 19, of Seppa, East Kameng district, was apprehended after an intensive probe by a Naharlagun Police Station team led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev, the Officer in Charge on 9th of June.
Police said the first case was registered after a woman complained that an unknown man stalked her and tried to force entry into her home around 3:00 AM. The suspect was found on the premises with two pairs of scissors and allegedly attempted to enter through a window and door.
In the second incident, reported at Nirjuli Police Station, an intruder allegedly entered a young woman’s rented room in Lekhi around 3:30 AM while she slept. He allegedly tried to outrage her modesty by covering her mouth and cutting her clothes with scissors.
The victim resisted and fought back, sustaining minor facial injuries before the accused fled.
Using sustained efforts and technical investigation, police identified and tracked the accused. He was arrested and taken into custody for legal proceedings.
Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun, Dr. Nyelam Nega, commended both women for their courage and for reporting the incidents promptly, which aided the investigation.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and lock doors and windows before sleeping, noting that one incident involved entry through an unlocked door.
The ICR Naharlagun Police reiterated its commitment to women’s safety and said strict action will continue against crimes targeting women. It assured that all efforts are being made to maintain security in the Capital Region.
