Mizoram has experienced 846 landslides from May 24 to July 9 due to continuous monsoon rains, causing extensive damage to infrastructure and disrupting daily life.
Aizawl district is the worst affected, with 127 landslides leading to the destruction of 22 houses and blockage of 119 roads. Lunglei district has recently seen fresh landslides that disrupted transport and stranded travellers.
Landslides have also been reported in Champhai, Lunglei, and Serchhip districts, cutting off inter-district connectivity.
Overall, the state has reported 389 road blockages, 282 damaged houses, 342 houses fully destroyed, 67 retaining wall collapses, 10 damaged electric poles, and five deaths.
Disaster response teams and local authorities are working to clear debris and restore connectivity, though ongoing rains continue to hamper relief efforts.
Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to avoid non-essential travel and follow safety protocols. Relief and medical assistance are being provided to displaced families.
The Mizoram government plans a high-level review meeting to coordinate further response as the monsoon season progresses.
