The Sikkim State Civil Service Officers’ Association (SSCSOA) is set to launch a plantation drive at Samsing in Pakyong district on August 9, 2025, under the Connect Earth – Sikkim initiative. The drive will involve the planting of avocado saplings and nakima plants (Tupistra nutans) on government-allocated land.
The Connect Earth – Sikkim programme, mentored by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, focuses on rejuvenating barren land and promoting sustainable agricultural practices through community participation. It also aims to restore the dignity of farming and strengthen environmental stewardship across the state.
The SSCSOA emphasized that the plantation drive reflects its commitment to sustainable development and traditional agriculture in rural Sikkim. The initiative also aims to encourage civil service officers to lead by example in promoting eco-friendly and farming-based initiatives.
Participants will include SSCSOA members, government officials from Pakyong, representatives of NGOs, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and Panchayats. The Association expressed its gratitude to Robin Seva, Additional District Collector (Development), Pakyong, and Coordinator of the Connect Earth – Sikkim Mission, for his support in organizing the event.
The SSCSOA has invited all interested individuals and community members to join the Phase-I event and contribute to building a greener and more sustainable Sikkim.
