Agartala, August 14, 2025: A long-standing demand of Tripura’s Unakoti district residents has finally been fulfilled as the much-awaited “Ultra Sound” service was officially launched at Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Hospital (RGM) on Thursday. The new facility has been set up at a cost of around ₹36 lakh and is expected to significantly improve diagnostic healthcare in the region.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Tripura’s Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, in the presence of Kailashahar Municipal Council Chairperson Chapala Debroy, Vice Chairperson Nitish Dey, Unakoti CMO Shirshendu Chakma, SDM Bipul Das and RGM Hospital SDMO Papiya Rudra Pal. The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by a welcome speech from Dr. Papiya Rudra Pal.
Speaking at the program, Minister Tinku Roy said, “The people of Kailashahar had been demanding this service for a long time. After becoming a minister, I discussed the matter with our Chief Minister and Health Minister, Professor Dr. Manik Saha, and we worked to implement it within a short time.”
Highlighting the government’s ongoing healthcare initiatives, he added, “We are investing nearly ₹1,000 crore in the health sector to develop new services and upgrade infrastructure. Plans are also in place to rebuild the old and damaged facilities of Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Hospital.”
Currently, the “Ultra Sound” service will be operated by a specialist doctor from Unkoti District Hospital, with plans to appoint a permanent doctor in the near future. After the formalities, the minister and other dignitaries toured the new “Ultra Sound” department.
Local residents have expressed hope that this addition will not only reduce the need to travel long distances for diagnostic tests but also elevate the overall quality of healthcare in Unakoti district.
