The Assam State Election Commission announced on Tuesday that the elections to the autonomous Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) will be held on September 22, with the entire process slated to conclude by September 28.

According to the election schedule, the last date for filing nominations is September 2, scrutiny will take place on September 4, and the final date for withdrawal of candidatures is September 6. Polling will occur on September 22, followed by counting of votes on September 26.

The BTC comprises 40 constituencies, of which 30 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes, five for non-Scheduled Tribes and five are in the open category. The Commission’s latest roll lists 26,57,937 electors 13,23,399 males, 13,34,521 females and 17 others across 3,359 polling stations.

The Commission will continue to add new voters until the nomination deadline, in line with the ongoing summary revision exercise by the Election Commission of India.

Currently governed by a UPPL–BJP coalition, the BTC administers five districts Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri and Tamulpur. In a repeat of the 2020 polls, the BJP, UPPL and BPF will all contest independently, setting the stage for a three-cornered fight.
