Shillong, May 18: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced on Monday that the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET), originally scheduled for May 29, has been postponed. The decision was made after a delegation of teachers highlighted scheduling conflicts arising from their mandatory national duties.

Speaking at a public programme in Damas, North Garo Hills, Sangma explained that teachers had recently apprised him of the challenges they faced in preparing for the examination while balancing classroom responsibilities and assignments related to the Census and SIR duties.

The Chief Minister emphasized that while the state has made significant strides in expanding the number of schools through robust interventions and fiscal investments, the challenge now lies in improving quality. He acknowledged that raising standards will take time but reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring long-term improvements in education.
