The Meghalaya Police on Saturday filed a 790-page chargesheet in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case at the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Court, Sohra Sub-division. The chargesheet names five accused, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Ashish Singh Rajput, and Aanand Kurmi, booked under sections 103(1), 238(a), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, residents of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, had visited Shillong for their honeymoon on May 21, 2025, and later traveled to Sohra. The couple went missing on May 26, prompting an extensive search operation involving Sohra Police, SOT, NDRF, SDRF, local trekking groups, and villagers.

Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was recovered on June 2 from a deep gorge near Arliang Riat Kunongrim, Umblai, Sohra, while Sonam Raghuvanshi was later found near a roadside dhaba along the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. The case was registered as Sohra PS Case No. 07/2025 under relevant sections of the BNS Act.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police also reconstructed the crime scene in Sohra in the presence of the accused and Sonam Raghuvanshi to aid the investigation.

The chargesheet, along with substantial material evidence, has been officially filed for trial, marking a crucial step forward in the investigation into Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder.
