After nearly 24 hours of intensive search operations involving around 450 personnel from the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Assam Rifles, assisted by sniffer dogs and forensic expert teams, the mortal remains of six persons were recovered on Wednesday afternoon.
According to official sources, the deceased are believed to be among those who were allegedly taken hostage from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026.
Police said necessary legal formalities are currently being carried out, while further investigation into the case is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the deaths and identify those responsible.
The large-scale search operation was launched following reports of the abduction, with security forces combing difficult terrain for nearly a day before locating the bodies.
