A series of awareness campaigns focusing on women’s empowerment were held in Kakching district under the ongoing 10-day Special Awareness Campaign of SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW), which concludes on September 12, 2025.
At PYNCA Shakti Sadan Home, Kakching Chumnang Leikai, an awareness program on the theme “Empowering Women through Higher Education, Vocational Training and Skill Development” was organized by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and the ICDS Cell, Kakching, in collaboration with One Stop Centre and Shakti Sadan Home. The campaign was led by Ningthoujam Parango Singh, DPO/CDPO Kakching, Social Welfare Department.
Resource person N. Jashumati Devi, Instructor of Weaving and Embroidery, highlighted various vocational and skill training initiatives at Shakti Sadan Home, stressing the importance of hands-on learning, technical training, and soft skills for confidence-building and self-reliance.
Sapam Linthoigambi, Secretary of the Centre for Rural Upliftment Service (CRUS), explained that Shakti Sadan Home provides integrated relief and rehabilitation to women facing distress, trafficking, and difficult circumstances, offering shelter, healthcare, counseling, and livelihood opportunities. She emphasized that the training fosters self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and economic independence, enabling women to contribute to their families and communities.
Officials also reminded that women in distress can seek emergency assistance through the 24×7 Women Helpline 181, which connects them to support services, including Shakti Sadan Homes.
Meanwhile, another awareness campaign on “Legal Awareness for Women” was held at Tangjeng Khunou Community Hall under the supervision of the District Administration, Kakching.
Ksh. Sarankumari Devi, Panel Lawyer of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), spoke on constitutional and legal rights of women, as well as procedures to access the justice system. She elaborated on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and other key legislations safeguarding women from abuse.
