Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Itanagar on September 22 to inaugurate and lay the foundation for several major projects in Arunachal Pradesh. The state government has made elaborate arrangements and tightened security ahead of the visit.
Modi will lay the foundation stone for the 1,830-km Frontier Highway, stretching from Bomdila in West Kameng to Vijaynagar in Changlang along the McMahon Line. The highway is expected to improve border connectivity and support national security.
He will also inaugurate two hydroelectric projects—the 186-MW Tato-I project and the 240-MW Heo project on the Yarjep river—and an integrated convention centre in Tawang.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to launch the second phase of the ₹2,205-crore Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) at Indira Gandhi Park. This phase will provide road connectivity, telecom and television services, and electrification to 122 border villages, including 67 along the India-Myanmar border and 55 along the India-Bhutan border.
In preparation for the visit, Itanagar has undergone a city-wide beautification drive, including road improvements and other civic upgrades.
