The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a decisive victory in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections, winning 14 of the 20 seats, including four uncontested, as results were announced on Saturday.

In the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) polls, the Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA) emerged victorious, claiming five of the eight wards, according to State Election Commission secretary Taru Talo. The BJP won two wards, while an Independent candidate secured one.

The opposition Congress failed to win any seats in both civic bodies. In IMC, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won three seats, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) took two, and one seat went to an Independent candidate. Women candidates performed strongly, winning 10 seats in the 20-member IMC and four in the eight-member PMC.

The elections for IMC and PMC were conducted using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) on December 15. Counting for simultaneous panchayat polls—including 186 zilla parishad member (ZPM) and 1,947 gram panchayat member (GPM) seats—continues via ballot papers, with results expected soon.
