Assam Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia has approached the Gauhati High Court seeking intervention to dissolve the judicial commission set up to probe the death of singer Zubeen Garg.

Saikia argued that the one-man commission’s inquiry overlaps and contradicts the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the CID, which is already handling the case.

In his letter to the Chief Justice, the Congress leader also requested the constitution of a Special Bench to supervise and monitor the SIT’s probe. The CID-led SIT is investigating the singer’s unnatural death, following the registration of over 60 FIRs across Assam.
