The Mangan District Police celebrated Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on Friday to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, remembered as the Iron Man of India.

The event began with a 5-kilometre “Run for Unity” from Mangan Bus Stand to Singhik School. The run was flagged off by Superintendent of Police, Mangan, Lall Bahadur Chettri, in the presence of ADM Mangan, Pema Wangchen Namkarpa, OSD Lachen-Mangan, Tshering Wangyal Bhutia, Joint Director (Sports) Janim Lepcha, SDPO Mangan, Rinku Ongmu Bhutia, and SHO Mangan, Prashant Rai. Heads of offices, senior officers, and representatives from various organisations were also present.
Among the participants were Honorary Secretary of the Sikkim Cricket Association, Rinzing Namgyal Bhutia, councillors, NDRF personnel, riders from NRMC, KRMC, and VRMC, teachers, students, and members of the public. Despite heavy rainfall, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from police personnel, students, and local residents, showcasing a strong sense of unity and patriotism.
The programme included a pledge-taking ceremony, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to uphold national unity, integrity, and security. Community engagement activities were also held to promote harmony and integration among citizens.
Trophies and certificates were presented to winners in both Boys and Girls categories, and participation certificates were distributed to all participants.
The observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s vision of a united India and emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining the nation’s unity, peace, and strength.
