Agartala, March 10, 2026: Raising the concerns of Queen Pineapple cultivators in Tripura, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee has urged the Centre to establish a dedicated Pineapple Park, modern cold storage facilities, and special export incentives to safeguard the interests of tribal farmers and ensure their access to international markets.

Speaking in the Upper House, Bhattacharjee highlighted that nearly 33 percent of Tripura’s tribal population is engaged in Queen Pineapple cultivation, which remains a vital source of livelihood and a cornerstone of the state’s rural economy.

He recalled that on June 7, 2018, then President Ram Nath Kovind declared Queen Pineapple as Tripura’s state fruit, and later, under the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the fruit received Geographical Indication (GI) recognition, boosting its reputation both in India and abroad.

Through the Vice President, Bhattacharjee appealed to the Union Government to set up a Pineapple Park in Tripura, which would enable canning and production of value-added products, thereby significantly increasing farmers’ income. He also pressed for a modern cold storage facility to preserve quality for exports, ensuring the fruit reaches global markets in prime condition.

“Queen Pineapple is not just a fruit, it is Tripura’s identity,” Bhattacharjee said, stressing that modern infrastructure would secure the future of farmers and strengthen the state’s economy.

He expressed confidence that such measures would guarantee fair prices for tribal cultivators, expand the global reach of Tripura’s Queen Pineapple, and reinforce the state’s agriculture-based economy.
