The commission probing the death of singer Zubeen Garg has extended the deadline for recording statements and submitting evidence to December 12, officials said on Monday.
Justice Soumitra Saikia of the Gauhati High Court, heading the one-man commission, had started receiving statements and evidence on November 3. The earlier deadline of November 21 has now been extended, Aroop Pathak, the commission’s member-secretary, confirmed.
A notice issued on Friday invited individuals with information about the incident to submit notarised affidavits and supporting documents between 10.30 am and 4 pm on all working days except Sundays. It also requested a list of relevant documents, including details of individuals or institutions from whom additional records could be obtained.
The Assam government had constituted the inquiry commission to examine the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death in Singapore on September 19, including any possible lapses, negligence, or external involvement.
Zubeen Garg, a leading figure in Assamese music and cinema, died while swimming in Singapore.
