Tripura Receives Major Multi-Crore Central Assistance for Tourism Infrastructure Development

Agartala, December 05, 2025: Tripura has received substantial financial assistance from the Central Government over the years under various tourism and cultural promotion schemes, aimed at strengthening the state’s heritage, festivals and destination infrastructure.

Under the Central Financial Assistance for Fairs and Festivals, Tripura has been supported consistently. In 2016-17, funding was provided for the Neermahal Festival at Rajghat, MelagharDiwali Festival at Udaipur and the Pilak Festival in South Tripura. In 2019-20, major events such as Kharchi MelaNeermahal Festival and Diwali Mela received assistance. Subsequent years saw funding for popular festivals including Bharat Bangla FestivalChabimura Festival, and Ashokastami Festival. For 2025-26, major allocations have been approved for the Neermahal Festival (Rs 30 lakh)Diwali Festival (Rs 30 lakh) and Chabimura & Tirthamukh Festival (Rs 20 lakh), reflecting a sharp increase in support.

Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, two major tourism circuits in Tripura were sanctioned. In 2015-16, an amount of Rs 82.85 crore was sanctioned for the development of the Agartala–Sipahijala–Udaipur–Dumboor–Gandachara–Ambassa tourism corridor. In 2018-19, another Rs 44.83 crore was approved for the development of Surma Chherra, Unakoti, Jampui Hills, Neermahal and Pilak circuits.

In the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 programme, Tripura received Rs 48.95 crore for the Tripura Heritage Village & Sangeet Experience at Agartala (Phase I & II) during 2024-25.

Further boosting religious tourism, under the PRASAD scheme, Rs 34.43 crore was sanctioned in 2020-21 for the development of the Tripura Sundari Temple at Udaipur, a significant Shakti Peetha.

In addition, Tripura was sanctioned Rs 97.70 crore in 2024-25 under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) Scheme for the development of the Shakti Peethas Park at Banduar in Gomati District.

Union Minister of Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Thursday. He stated that these allocations will significantly enhance Tripura’s cultural visibility, improve tourist infrastructure and create employment opportunities in the state’s heritage and eco-tourism sectors.
