Gangtok, Dce 8: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday attended the Sikkim Akademi Purashkar 2025 and Book Release Ceremony at Samman Bhawan, where he congratulated awardees and acknowledged the contributions of artists, litterateurs, and scholars from the state.

The Chief Minister extended his felicitations on behalf of the Government of Sikkim and personally to all the intellectuals, senior litterateurs, artists, craftsmen, and distinguished personalities present. He highlighted that the Sikkim Akademi confers the Sikkim Akademi Purashkar annually to recognise excellence in language and literature, music, painting, and other art forms.
This year’s award was presented to master craftsman Bharat Rai of Jarong in Ravangla Sub-Division, renowned for his traditional bamboo craft. Tamang praised Rai’s dedication and perseverance, noting that his work continues to inspire the community.
Tamang emphasised that since 2019, the state government has supported Sikkimese talent across education, health, tourism, sports, technology, literature, music, and art, including initiatives in rural areas to identify and uplift creative individuals.
He added that the event celebrated Sikkim’s creative spirit and recognised the contributions of creators, scholars, musicians, and innovators who are shaping the state’s cultural identity and promoting its heritage across India and beyond.
The ceremony also saw the release of publications, including “Role and Contribution of Indian Nepali / Nepali-Speaking Indians in the Making of Modern India.” Tamang congratulated the authors and contributors for their work.
He concluded by thanking the organisers, guests, participants, and all creative individuals for strengthening Sikkim’s cultural fabric.
