Gangtok, Dec 10: BJP MP Dorjee Tshering Lepcha from Sikkim on Wednesday urged the central government to promptly reopen trade through the Nathula Pass, closed since 2020. He highlighted the severe economic hardships faced by traditional traders, transport workers, porters, and local residents due to the prolonged shutdown.
Speaking during Rajya Sabha’s Zero Hour, Lepcha called the Nathula trade route a crucial economic lifeline for Sikkim and an important confidence-building measure between India and China. He also appealed for government support and relief for communities affected by the suspension.
