Agartala, December 13, 2025: Tripura Police in Dharmanagar achieved a major breakthrough in their anti-narcotics drive on Saturday after arresting a woman from Agartala with a large quantity of Yaba tablets.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team from the Dharmanagar police station, supported by the intelligence wing, conducted a raid near the Railway Station Road area. During the operation, officers detained Shukla Debnath, 37, daughter of Dwijendra Debnath. Originally from Kamalasagar Debipur, she had been residing in Agartala’s Chandrapur locality.
Police sources said Debnath, who is divorced, was spotted loitering in the Rajbari area earlier in the day, raising suspicion. Upon questioning and subsequent search, officers recovered 1,960 Yaba tablets packed in 10 packets from her possession. The seized narcotics are estimated to have a market value of Rs 10–12 lakh.
The operation was conducted in the presence of the Duty Magistrate and a forensic team, ensuring compliance with legal procedures. The raid was led by the Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar police station, with active support from the intelligence department.
During preliminary interrogation, Debnath admitted she had arrived in Dharmanagar from Agartala earlier that morning. Investigators suspect she has been involved in trafficking narcotics across different parts of the state and beyond.
Police have launched a wider probe to identify others linked to the smuggling network. Officials said further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
