The Quarterly District-Level Compliance Review Meeting on the implementation of directions issued by the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety (SCCoRS) was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kangpokpi, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed key road safety initiatives undertaken in the district, including the inauguration of the Parking Management System implemented in collaboration with the Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council (SH-ADC). He urged officials of the ADC and the Police Department to further strengthen coordination to improve parking management across the district.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), NHIDCL, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to jointly identify unsafe bridges, bridges requiring restoration, and vulnerable stretches of PMGSY roads. They were instructed to submit a comprehensive report to the Deputy Commissioner in accordance with Indian Roads Congress (IRC) standards.

Briefing the meeting on enforcement measures, the District Transport Officer (DTO) informed that 73 challans had been issued, with fines amounting to ₹1,73,000. He added that cases involving non-payment of fines are being processed for legal action. Emphasising student safety, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the DTO to strictly monitor overcrowding in school vans, particularly those ferrying children, warning that such practices can lead to claustrophobia and pose serious risks of injury.

The Chair also directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to review cases of ambulances requiring restoration and to ensure the installation of GPS devices in all district ambulances under the District Health Society, in coordination with the concerned departments, to improve emergency response and monitoring.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate N. Shokhongam Baite, MCS; Superintendent of Police Kangpokpi Abhinav, IPS; Len Singsit, MCS, Sub-Divisional Officer (Island); other SDOs; the District Transport Officer; the Chief Medical Officer; and other concerned officials.
