The High-Level Task Force on Infrastructure Connectivity and Logistics Cost, under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), held an online meeting on Monday to discuss strategies for improving regional connectivity.
The meeting was convened by Dr. Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura, with members joining virtually. Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma attended from Aizawl, while Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, was also present.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma highlighted Mizoram’s strategic location under the Act East Policy, noting its potential for connectivity-driven economic growth. He pointed out the completion of the rail line up to Sairang and said its extension to Zorinpui would enhance economic activity across the North Eastern Region. He also stressed the development of Zorinpui and Zokhawthar as key border trade points and proposed multimodal logistics hubs at Sairang and Lawngtlai to improve movement of goods and people.
He further recommended adopting robust concrete standards for future road construction to ensure durability, reduce maintenance costs, and improve logistical efficiency.
The Task Force is in the process of finalising its report, which will present actionable recommendations to strengthen infrastructure connectivity and reduce logistics costs in the North Eastern Region.
Vanlaldina Fanai, Commissioner & Secretary to the Chief Minister of Mizoram, along with senior planning officials, attended the proceedings.
