Guwahati, May 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s gesture of wearing the traditional Bodo scarf, Aronai, during his address to the Indian diaspora in The Hague on Saturday has been hailed as a reflection of Assam’s rich handloom heritage. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday expressed gratitude to Modi, noting that the scarf embodies the pride and cultural identity of the Bodo community.
Sarma Emphasised that the Prime Minister’s choice to don the Aronai on a global stage underscores the dignity of Assam’s indigenous traditions. He further credited Modi for ushering in peace and prosperity in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), pointing to the 2020 Bodo Peace Accord that expanded the powers of the autonomous council and brought an end to decades of insurgency in the area.
“Aronai reflects the pride and rich handloom heritage of Assam’s Bodo community. Proud to see Adarniya Narendra Modi Ji carrying it with grace on the global stage in the Netherlands,” Sarma wrote in a post on X. He added that the Prime Minister’s leadership has marked a new era of stability and development across Bodoland.
