Satellite transmitters fitted on Amur falcons Alang, a young female, and Apapang, a male, continue to remain active, with the birds currently located in southern Africa, officials tracking the species said. Alang has been recorded in Botswana, while Apapang is in Zimbabwe, where both are enjoying warmer weather conditions.

According to tracking data, the two falcons are likely to remain in these locations during the Christmas season as part of their annual migratory cycle.

However, concern has been expressed over another tagged Amur falcon, Ahu, a female, which has not shown any movement from the Horn of Africa region in Somalia since November 19, 2025. While the satellite transmitter fitted to Ahu is still active, the absence of movement has raised apprehensions among conservationists that something may have happened to the bird.

Wildlife experts said monitoring will continue closely, and further assessment will be made based on upcoming satellite data to determine Ahu’s status.
