Assam Police Seize 20,000 Yaba Tablets Worth Rs 3 Crore, Arrest Woman In Cachar

Silchar, Jan 7: Assam Police carried out two major anti-drug operations in Cachar district, seizing 20,000 Yaba tablets valued at Rs 3 crore and 406 grams of heroin from multiple suspects, officials said.

In the first operation on Tuesday, acting on intelligence inputs, police raided the Jirighat PHE Road area and apprehended Rahenliu from Tamenglong, Manipur. A search led to the recovery of 20,000 Yaba tablets weighing 2,155.2 grams. The seizure was conducted following NDPS Act protocols in the presence of independent witnesses, said Cachar SSP Partha Protim Das.

In a separate operation on Monday night, police intercepted a pickup and a car at Sunabarighat Bypass on the Silchar-Aizawl Road. They recovered 40 boxes of heroin totaling 406 grams from a hidden chamber in the Bolero pickup, which had originated from Mizoram’s Champai district. Five individuals—Kamrul Islam (23), Halim Uddin (25), Hmun Pui (50), Sarmina Parbin (22), and Lalthanpui (41)—were arrested. Investigations are ongoing to trace the drug supply networks.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the operations on X, saying the state is working to curb drug networks and prevent youth from falling into addiction.
